About Fetal Death Data
The purpose of the Fetal Death module is to generate interactive statistics of fetal
death data. The intended audience is researchers, public health officials, students,
and the general public. Fetal death data comes from fetal death records that are
sent from the facilities where the death occurs. This module contains only data
from the fetal death report.
Users can select the year, maternal race, gestational age and weight of the fetus
at delivery. These same variables can be individually selected from the drop down
lists provided. As is the other modules users can select the regions and the output
preferences desired. Zip codes are not available for fetal deaths due to the small
numbers and confidentiality of the data. Users can generate on-the-fly tables of
the frequencies, rates 3-year rates, and percentages along with trendlines and bar
charts of the selected data. When rates have been selected 95% Confidence intervals
can also be generated in the tables. Fetal death rates are per 1000 annual live
births plus fetal deaths.
The interpretation of tables and maps is the users responsibility. Many supporting
pages are provided with definitions, examples of rate calculations, Division of
Biostatistics and Health GIS contact information, and frequently asked questions
to assist the user in interpreting this data. Rates with small numbers are unreliable
and should be used cautiously.
